St. John the Baptist Church is established.

Formed to serve Italian and Portuguese immigrants, the congregation meets initially in a brick warehouse at 9 Moon Street. It moves to today’s St. Stephen’s Church in 1862. A school is built on the site of the former warehouse in 1895.*
